I bought this book on the suggestion of Andrew’s Bookshop (it was on offer…). I had never heard of R I Packer and I was only really tempted because of the title (Where have you heard that before?). Nothing, therefore, prepared me for the enjoyment I would derive from this book. I say ‘enjoyment’ because the message of Packer’s book (for me, at any rate) is one of deep joy.

In the New Windsor Team Ministry (and presumably in many other CofE churches) it is possible to attend services regularly and never hear a reading from the Old Testament. References to the OT, particularly the prophets, may be made in the New Testament readings, but unless you read the OT at home it will be as if it didn’t exist. Yet, as the title of this book declares, the OT is the Bible Jesus read and it figures significantly in the Jewish scriptures.
